Sebastiano Impellizzeri
Sebastiano Impellizzeri (Catania, 1982) lives and works in Turin.
He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino and at the Accademia Albertina in Turin.
His research can be defined as a global reflection on the linguistic components of painting as raw material, even when the works do not directly involve the pictorial medium.
The artist uses different supports and materials, often blending allusions to art history. He studies the extensions of the origin of the image, exploring themes related to the memory and temporality of the work, the transmission and the processing of aesthetic information in contemporary society.
Impellizzeri puts color in the foreground as a bearer of light (revelation and truth) and pushes the search for light as an alter-ego of matter beyond painting itself. In recent years his research has consisted of attempts at contact between aesthetic surfaces and real external space. The pictorial practice incorporates active action: the work integrates long solitary actions, walks and experiences in the urban undergrowth that explore the ritual, the erotic and the adventure in places that change shape and use by mutating into something else.No longer just a static image or representation: the work also becomes a dynamic means to experience the ritual, a visual device of the adventure.
